What will you need to apply for an NPI number?

- OT/COTA license number
- Social security number
- EIN or Tax ID number for your business

Why do you need an NPI number?

Once you are assigned a 10-digit unique National
Provider Identifier (NPI) number, it is yours for life. Virtually any insurance carrier should be able to identify you by your NPI, replacing non-standard identifiers and streamlining claims processing. However, it will not replace your social security number, DEA number, taxpayer ID, taxonomy (specialty) number or state license number.

Two Types of NPI

An individual
is eligible for only one NPI.

2: Healthcare providers who are organizations, including physician groups, hospitals, nursing homes, and the corporation formed when an individual incorporates him/herself into a group practice.

How long does it take to get an NPI number?

About 10 days.
